This is an action plan with suggestions to help you stay on track for college.

  • Meet with your Guidance Counselor

  • Create a college calendar of all admissions deadelines

  • Focus on doing well in courses and seek extra help from peers, teachers and tutors when needed

  • Update resume

  • Take a leadership role within your sports team, club or volunteer organization

  • Start college and other applications in August/September

  • Create personal recommendation plan in September

  • Start essays in July/August/September

  • Prepare to take another SAT/ACT test by reviewing and taking practive tests

  • Register to take SAT/ACT in the fall

  • Attend any college fairs in your area

  • Design early action/early decision strategy (if applicable)

  • Use this College Planning Guide to help evaluate potential schools and select the schools where you apply

  • Secure letters of recommendation by October

  • Remember to send transcripts to colleges

  • Look for early decision/early application deadlines

  • Submit applications as early as possible for colleges with rolling admissions

  • Apply to QuestBridge College Match

 
  • Plan to have all applications submitted by December

  • Have your FAFSA and/or CSS Profile completed and submitted by their deadlines

  • Compare financial aid offers from colleges

  • Consider negotiating tuition options with colleges

  • Keep focused on doing well in courses and seek extra help when needed

  • Meet with your Guidance Counselor to discuss college courses options and goals for college

  • Study and take AP exams for AP courses you've completed (if applicable)

  • Take SAT Subject Test for any AP courses completed (if applicable)

  • Schedule extended visits to schools where you have been accepted. Meet with students and faculty members in your program of choice

  • Use the College Planning Guide to help you determine which school you will attend

  • Before leaving for college, create a list of everything you will need.

  • Take pride in all that you have accomplished. You have worked very hard to get to this point. Congratulations! You are officially college bound!
