CSKT member Heaven Diaz-Morigeau accepted to Dartmouth College
Heaven Diaz-Morigeau, an enrolled member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes and affiliated with the Auga Caliente Band of Coahuila Indians, has been accepted to the prestigious Ivy League research university Dartmouth.
However, the summer before her senior year, her guidance counselor Mr. Pule informed her of a camp called Hopa Mountain camp.
“They started showing me and giving me the tools to apply to those colleges, and that I am what they want,” she said.
For the past 20 years, Hopa Mountain has cultivated social, economic, and educational resilience in rural and tribal communities throughout the Northern Rockies. The Bozeman, Montana-based organization invests in “citizen leaders” — adults and youth active in developing their respective communities — to support historically underserved populations. In turn, these leaders return to their communities with innovative outreach programs, improved services, essential resources, and education.
