Millions of people in more than 30 countries have learned to read and write through the “Yo, Si Puedo” program. Yo, Sí Puedo, (Yes, I can) is a teaching method for adult literacy which was originally developed by Cuban educator Dr. Leonela Relys Diaz. One of the youngest members to serve in Cuba’s all-volunteer Literacy Campaign, Profesora Griselda Aguilera has been teaching in a myriad of educational settings since 1961 from traditional schools to community settings.
Hopa Mountain invites you to meet Profesora Griselda Aguilera, now with the Cuban Society of Psychology’s Working Group on Identity and Diversity, in our office on Tuesday, October 24 from 4 - 6 p.m. Currently Profesora Aguilera is working to combat homophobia, racial discrimination, prejudices against people with HIV / AIDS, and violence against women and girls. She has been nationally recognized for her work on the UNESCO Cuban Literacy program and process, Yo Si Puedo (Yes I can!). This gathering is offered in cooperation with Gallatin Friends of Cuba.
